St. John's

I drew this in late summer when we were at a local park. The tip of this church tower just reached over the tree tops and my husband graciously chased around our daughter while I sat on a park bench and drew. I didn't have a pencil and had the drawing in public jitters so after a few lines I looked and realized it was off. Way off. Instead of scrapping the whole thing I decided to just use what lines I could and just ignore what I couldn't. So here is the slightly wonky drawing with a few extra lines with absolutely no right to be there. But you know what? I kind of like it.

Unfortunately this is the last drawing I've done in a while. In the meantime I've made a quilt, worked on a stocking for my daughter, and now am knitting slippers for her. I guess I've just been following my creativity in other directions lately. Hopefully soon I'll have some more current sketches to share.

I like it too! And public sketching is so hard. I am glad you posted.

Glad to see you around again! Cute sketch - reminds me of the style of a certain Danny G!

I (more than) kind of like it, too! If you can find the time, please sketch some more!

It was certainly well worth the effort to draw it and post it. I don't mean to but I often go periods of time without drawing. This one is very good. I like it much

I like it too. Inevitably when I draw (especially structures), my lines or measurements or angles are off. But, you see, I am not an architect and architectural drawings are boring anyway. If your drawing were always to be as exact as a photograph, then why draw? Take a photograph.

I always take this approach: My subject is my starting point - in my sketch I am creating my own reality, my goal is to make it look good, not to create a carbon copy of the original.

Maybe this is the reason for the rut. Let yourself make mistakes - it's okay, and then use them to make something that is unique and yours.

One more thought on the rut: If you want to do draw, if you enjoy it, then draw anything at all (maybe the EDM list) to get your creativity flowing again. It will. If, though, drawing and painting is a chore for you right now, just because you are good at it doesn't mean you have to do it. Life is too short - find something else you like to do, and do that instead!

Beautiful tower indeed! Lovely background with vivid blue sky, and very detailed drawing this is. I really admire your courage to be drawing in public, something I have yet to conquer

Lovely drawing. Some of greatest artist lines are not always strait or right, but it is art. If you like, then that's all that matters.
